Why surface prep makes or breaks an epoxy floor
A premium epoxy is only as good as the concrete it's bonded to. Proper preparation is where a floor that lasts a decade is won or lost β so we never cut corners on it. It also decides what can stay and what has to go: whether epoxy can go over existing tiles comes down to what the assessment finds under your feet.
Diamond grinding
The slab is mechanically ground to open the concrete's pores so the epoxy bonds properly. This is the single biggest factor in a floor that lasts β coating over an unprepared surface is why cheap epoxy peels.
Crack & pit repair
Cracks, chips and pitting are filled and levelled before any colour goes down, so the finished floor is smooth and structurally sound.
Moisture & contamination checks
We deal with oil, old sealers and rising damp first. Skipping this is the most common cause of epoxy failure, so we never do.
How long does it take?
Most domestic floors β a single or double garage β are prepped and coated over two to three days, with curing time between coats. A metallic or multi-coat decorative system, or a larger commercial or industrial space, takes a little longer, and a working warehouse or factory floor also needs scheduling around your operating hours. We confirm a realistic timeline at your on-site assessment so you can plan around it.
Epoxy needs time to cure before it carries foot and vehicle traffic, so we'll tell you exactly when you can walk on it and when you can park or run equipment on it. To budget the job first, see our epoxy flooring pricing.
